Fahri Hamzah: Prabowo Grants Amnesty to Hasto and Tom Lembong

Published:

President Prabowo Subianto has been commended for his wisdom and foresight in granting amnesty and abolition to PDI-P Secretary General Hasto Kristiyanto and businessman Tom Lembong. This move is widely seen as a step towards national reconciliation. Senior politician Fahri Hamzah praised President Prabowo’s decision as a swift and thoughtful response to address concerns over societal divisions ahead of Indonesia’s upcoming 80th Independence Day celebrations. House Speaker Prof. Sufmi Dasco Ahmad also welcomed the decision, recognizing it as a signal from the President to end social polarization and initiate a broader reconciliation process.

Fahri highlighted the significance of President Prabowo’s use of his constitutional prerogative, especially in light of efforts by certain groups to sow disunity. He expressed optimism that the President’s decision will contribute to restoring societal harmony and reunifying the nation. The Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR) approved the amnesty for 1,116 convicted individuals, including Hasto Kristiyanto, as detailed in Presidential Letter No. 42/Pres/072725 issued on July 30, 2025.

Amnesty and abolition are forms of the President’s prerogative rights under the Indonesian Constitution, aimed at eliminating legal consequences arising from criminal convictions. President Prabowo’s exercise of constitutional power is viewed as a sincere effort to bring the nation together in the face of fragmentation.
