Washington, D.C. — Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto met with U.S. President Joe Biden at the White House in Washington, D.C., on Tuesday afternoon, November 12. Prabowo arrived at 2:09 p.m. local time.

The warm, one-on-one meeting lasted about an hour, with discussions focused on strengthening the Indonesia-U.S. partnership and addressing global challenges, including the situation in Gaza and the South China Sea.

“We also discussed global challenges, including the situation in Gaza and the South China Sea,” Biden stated.

Prabowo opened the meeting by expressing deep respect and gratitude for Biden’s hospitality.

“Thank you, President Biden, for welcoming me. I also want to thank you personally for calling to congratulate me on my election as President of Indonesia,” Prabowo said.

During the meeting, Biden highlighted the enduring strength of the 75-year diplomatic relationship between the United States and Indonesia, emphasizing a mutual commitment to building an even more comprehensive partnership.

“For 75 years, the diplomatic relationship between Indonesia and the U.S. has been the strongest it has ever been, and today we will discuss ways to advance this partnership,” Biden remarked.

Prabowo, in turn, acknowledged the U.S. as a close and supportive friend, noting America’s historic support for Indonesia’s independence.

“For us, the United States is a very good friend. The U.S. supported our struggle for independence and has helped us numerous times when we needed it,” Prabowo stated.

Key points from the meeting included Biden’s commitment to advancing a free and open Indo-Pacific region, combating climate change—where Indonesia plays a crucial role in the green energy transition—building secure and resilient supply chains, and maintaining a comprehensive strategic partnership that includes security cooperation.

Prabowo expressed his dedication to further strengthening Indonesia-U.S. relations to achieve shared goals.

“I am committed to strengthening Indonesia-U.S. relations, and I will work to achieve these objectives. We have a strong partnership,” Prabowo concluded. (RR)
